1. About these terms

These terms cover your use of Prompt Lab: the Chrome extension, the desktop app, and the hosted web app at promptlab.tools, including the paid Prompt Lab Pro plan. Prompt Lab is run by David Robertson, an individual (“we”, “us”). Our Privacy Policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes.

By creating an account on the hosted web app or subscribing to Prompt Lab Pro, you agree to these terms. The checkout screen links these terms next to the subscribe buttons. If you do not agree, do not use the hosted web app or buy Pro.

2. The service

Prompt Lab is a workspace for writing, testing, comparing and saving AI prompts. It works with AI providers you choose (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, OpenRouter and Ollama), usually with your own API key. Your prompts, library and settings are stored on your device.

• The Chrome extension and the desktop app are free and include every workflow feature. You do not need an account to use them, and you cannot buy Prompt Lab Pro inside them.
• The hosted web app needs a free account. Its Free plan includes enhancement modes, the prompt library, preset packs, library import and JSON library export, the diff viewer and the composer. Prompt Lab Pro adds Compare, batch test-case runs and collections.
• When you use your own API key, your requests and any charges for them are between you and that provider, under its own terms and pricing.
• The hosted web app may offer limited AI usage through our own provider account. We set daily and per-request limits on it and may change or remove it at any time.

3. Accounts and age

Accounts on the hosted web app are managed by our sign-in provider, Clerk. Keep your sign-in secure and tell us promptly if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

You must be at least 13 years old to use Prompt Lab, or older if the law where you live sets a higher age for using online services without a parent's consent (for example, 16 in some EU countries). To buy Prompt Lab Pro you must be an adult who can make a binding contract where you live.

4. Prompt Lab Pro subscription and automatic renewal

Prompt Lab Pro is a subscription that renews automatically until you cancel. It costs USD 9 per month or USD 79 per year. You are charged when you subscribe and then at the start of each new monthly or yearly period, at the same price, to the payment method you gave at checkout. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your full card details. Stripe emails you a receipt for each payment.

• Prices are in US dollars. Prices do not include sales tax or VAT; where we are required to collect tax, it is added at checkout.
• If we change the price, we will email you at least 30 days before the new price applies to your next renewal, and you can cancel before then.
• For annual plans, we will email you a reminder before each renewal with the price and how to cancel.
• Promotion codes apply only as described when you redeem them.
• Annual subscriptions bought at the earlier price of USD 99 per year keep renewing at that price. You can cancel and subscribe again at the current price at any time.

5. Cancelling

You can cancel online at any time: in the web app, go to Settings → Manage Billing → Manage Purchases, which opens the Stripe customer portal. You can also email us and we will cancel for you. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. Pro stays available until then and you are not charged again. Cancelling does not by itself refund the current period; see section 6.

6. Refunds

• 14-day refund. You can ask for a full refund within 14 days of your first Prompt Lab Pro payment (monthly or annual), or within 14 days of an annual renewal payment. Email avbydave@gmail.com from the address on your account. You do not need to give a reason.
• A full refund ends Pro. When we refund a payment in full, we cancel the subscription at the same time, and Pro ends on your devices at their next billing check (section 8).
• Monthly renewals are not refundable, except for billing errors or where the law requires a refund.
• Billing errors, such as a duplicate charge, a charge after a cancellation took effect, or a charge at the wrong price, are refunded in full.
• Partial refunds or credits that we offer as a goodwill gesture do not change your access.

If you live in the EU, the UK or another country that gives consumers a right to withdraw from or cancel an online purchase, the 14-day full refund above is how you use that right, and you will not be charged for the days you used Pro. Nothing in these terms limits refund, withdrawal or cancellation rights you have under the law where you live.

7. Failed payments and disputes

Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries it. Pro stays available while the subscription is past due. If the payment is not recovered and the subscription becomes unpaid or canceled, Pro ends. Updating your card in Manage Purchases restores a past-due subscription.

Disputes and chargebacks. Please contact us before disputing a charge with your bank; we refund billing errors directly and quickly. If you dispute a Prompt Lab charge, we cancel your subscription immediately so you are not charged again, and Pro ends. We may respond to the dispute with records of the purchase. The outcome of a dispute does not restore the canceled subscription. You can subscribe again at any time.

8. Pro status on your devices and offline access

Prompt Lab checks your subscription with our billing server and remembers a successful result on each device.

• A device becomes eligible for an automatic subscription re-check after 6 hours since its last check. An open tab checks periodically, subject to browser scheduling and network availability. Refresh Status requests a check without waiting for that window.
• A cancellation that takes effect, a full refund or a dispute appears after a successful check returns the updated billing status. The 6-hour window is not a guaranteed maximum delay; browser scheduling, network availability and server updates can delay the result.
• After a new purchase, choose Sync Purchase or Refresh Status to request the latest billing status. Pro appears when a successful check confirms the purchase.
• If our billing server cannot be reached, Pro stays available on that device for up to 7 days after its last successful check. After that, Pro pauses on that device until a check succeeds. Nothing is canceled or charged because of this.
• If we temporarily turn billing off, access a device already has is kept, and Free accounts can use every feature while purchases are unavailable.

Your prompts and library stay on your device and remain available on the Free plan. Data you organized with a Pro feature, such as collections, is kept, but the Pro feature itself is unavailable until you subscribe again.

9. Acceptable use

Do not use Prompt Lab to:

• break the law, or infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy or other rights;
• violate the terms or usage policies of the AI provider you send a request to;
• attack, overload, probe or bypass the security, rate limits or billing checks of Prompt Lab or its hosted proxy, or use the hosted proxy for anything other than Prompt Lab requests;
• resell or share a Pro subscription, or alter the app or its stored data to unlock Pro without paying;
• create or distribute malware, spam, or content that exploits or harms children.

We may suspend or end access for serious or repeated violations. Where we reasonably can, we will warn you first. If we end a paid subscription for a reason that is not your fault, we will refund the unused part of the period.

10. Your content, your data and the software

You keep all rights to the prompts, notes and other content you create. We do not claim ownership of it and, apart from what the Privacy Policy describes, we do not receive it. Because your library is stored on your device, you are responsible for keeping your own backups. JSON library export is available on every plan, including Free, so you can take your data out at any time in a standard format.

To close your hosted account, email us from the address on the account. We will delete your Clerk account and stop any active subscription. Stripe keeps payment records that we are required to keep for tax and accounting. Deleting your account does not delete the library stored on your own devices; you can clear that yourself in the app or your browser.

The Prompt Lab software is source-available under the license in its GitHub repository. That license, not these terms, governs copying or modifying the code. The Prompt Lab name and logo are ours.

11. Disclaimers

Prompt Lab is provided “as is” and “as available”. AI outputs can be wrong, incomplete or inappropriate; check them before you rely on them. We do not promise that Prompt Lab or any AI provider will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. If you are a consumer, you keep the rights the law where you live gives you that cannot be waived.

12. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim about Prompt Lab is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for Prompt Lab Pro in the 12 months before the claim, or USD 50. These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

13. Changes to Prompt Lab and to these terms

We may change or discontinue features. If we discontinue Prompt Lab Pro, we will refund the unused part of any prepaid period. We may update these terms; we will show the new effective date at the top of this page. For material changes we will give at least 30 days' notice by email or in the app before they apply to your next renewal. If you do not agree, you can cancel before then.

14. Ending these terms

You can stop using Prompt Lab at any time and cancel Pro as described in section 5. We may end your access under section 9. Sections 6, 10, 11, 12 and 15 continue after these terms end.

15. Governing law and disputes

If you have a problem, please email us first; most issues can be sorted out quickly that way, and we will try in good faith to resolve it within 30 days. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Either of us may bring a claim in small-claims court, or otherwise in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey. If you are a consumer, you also keep any right to bring a claim in the courts where you live and the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your country.
